WEEKLY FOCUS

Doubt to Do

Part Seventeen… When it all comes together!
Listen to the podcast here.

If you are a regular reader of our Weekly Focus (which has been delivered twice weekly for the last eight weeks, up until this week where we now revert to weekly), you will now understand that the focus is very much a story around my personal journey riding an organised charity bike ride of 200 miles on this coming weekend.

Whenever we take on a challenge, there are two aspects to your success. Mentally preparing which we have covered in recent weeks and months, but also the physical act of preparing.

No matter the challenge…An interview for a new role in the business, making a speech or any number of challenges that we face in our personal lives, preparation is key! This is so important for various reasons. When I coach athletes, a lot of the track training is all about breaking down a race into bite sized chunks…So for example…Preparation for a mile track race, is all about perhaps training over a number of 400 metre repetitions. It prepares the body for the rigours of race day, and it allow you to put together the parts of the training (four parts) into one come race day.

Preparation also gives you confidence…A speech prepared and rehearsed…Prior reading ahead of an interview.  For me, many hours in the saddle. It means that come what may, we turn up for our challenge with the newfound confidence that we have prepared…We could have done no more. This allows you then to be both physically and mentally prepared.

Another factor that we often overlook are the people all around us. Nearly all of us work in teams in some shape or form…Many of the challenges that we face, are as a team. You are rarely alone! There will always be someone there for you…You are never alone…Concerns are for sharing…That reassuring word, the arm on your shoulder. It is part of human nature do want to help…Never be afraid to ask! The world has 7 billion people…Few challenges that you face won’t have been experienced before.

Prepare for every challenge…Train the mind…Ask for help…You can achieve far more than you can possibly imagine! Be the person that you want to be, and tackle challenges head on!

“Confidence is preparation. Everything else is beyond your control.” Richard Kline
