Conducting your own personal reviews!

Listen here

Some of our recent “weekly focus”, have been centered around personal development…how you intend to make personal improvements, and with some plans and goals?

Like most things in life, we need to measure our performance against plan. What is outlined below, is how to look at your quarterly reviews…equally important is your half year review, but also on a monthly basis…for the latter, as much a check to ensure that you are on track.

The benefits of quarterly/six monthly reviews are many but primarily to check that you are progressing toward your annual objectives and goals…similarly:

• To ensure your objectives and goals are still relevant
• To review and celebrate your successes so far
• To allow you to reflect on what is (and what is not) working.
• To consider what your actions for the next period need to be
• To identify any skills gaps and support needed to ensure your success.
In terms of the review, block out time in your diary, and find a quiet place…as if you were conducting a 121 in your office! Identify whether your goals and objectives are still relevant. Things can and do change, so it is important to check that the goals are still relevant, and that they motivate you to succeed.
How are you are doing against your plans? Too often, we don’t recognise how much we have achieved! If you have genuinely made real progress then you should give yourself a pat on the back. The reverse…don’t simply beat yourself up, but reflect and learn.
What factors such as your work colleagues, your line manager etc. have helped you…do you need more support, continued support etc? The reverse of course applies…what is not working well, and what is stopping you progressing even faster to your goals? What is blocking you? Most importantly…what can you influence? Your aim is to identify the tools, systems and techniques that you will need to implement to change anything that is not working as well as you would like.
Finally, you need to decide what now based on your personal review, needs to change, or happen? Finally, set yourself a next review date. Reviews are there to keep you focused and on track, particularly as external changes can happen!
Never stop striving to be “your best version of you”!

No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you’ve come from, you can always change, become a better version of yourself.”
