From innovation to action
Listen here
The dictionary definition of innovation is “a new idea or method, or the use of new ideas and methods”.
At Solution Focused, we often use the expression “if you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always got” (Henry Ford).
Similarly, it is said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
Both in terms of sport at the top level and in business, you never stand still. They say that you constantly evolve and the time to do so, is when you are at the top. Not being complacent but constantly finding new and improved ways of working.
Innovation can come in a variety of ways. It may be a new product or service that is going to change the way that you do things. It may also be constantly (and based on a quest for excellence), making improvements to the way that you work.
Innovation should not be a “play thing”. Change can be exciting, change can be challenging, and it can also be unsettling. In terms of a product or service, user acceptance tests are likely to have taken place…only going to market once tests are complete…BUT…There may never be a right time…In pursuit of perfection, we could wait forever. There comes a time when we have to take a sharp intake of breath and jump in at the deep end!
All of the most successful people in life, will have taken risks…Not reckless, usually calculated…sometimes on a hunch. Whichever the reason, always remember to take your team on the journey.
- Talk to them
- Involve them
- Keep them updated
- Listen to them
- Repeat constantly!!
Together you will achieve more and once you get to the other side, collectively celebrate success…OR…Refine, tweak, and start again.
Innovation is really just part of our daily routines but delivered on a bigger scale.
“They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself”
Andy Warhol
