“Personal Accountability” to achieve results…
We all have to take personal responsibility! Listen here
Why follow others and why not take a lead in your own personal success…and when we say success, this can relate to whatever you set out to achieve.
Let’s first consider some behaviours that suggest that you need to rethink your personal responsibility! You always have excuses and find blame in others. You don’t follow through on your promises and expect others to fix your problems…sound familiar, or know others like that?
When you have personal accountability, you want to take charge of your life, tackle new challenges, and benefit from the challenges that you set yourself. You always ask, “What can I do to make this better?” Even learning from your mistakes!
You have to take responsibility for your decisions and actions, whether they’re right or wrong…the first steps.
You then have to break your objectives down and so there is no room for interpretation about what the outcome should look like. It will be transparent to all!
By taking personal responsibility, you become accountable, and so…If you overcommit yourself, you are likely to cut corners in your work to get it done faster. This will only damage the quality of your outcomes. A need to be assertive comes into play…the ability to say “NO” where needed…also to yourself, by remaining focused!
You need to create S.M.A.R.T goals…when you know exactly how you’re going to complete your goals, you’ll be able to measure your progress and assume accountability for what you have and haven’t done on route to the achievement of your goals. Your S.M.A.R.T goals are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time bound.
Personal accountability is also holding yourself accountable for what you do with your time. Review your to-do list frequently so you can see what you’ve accomplished (and are proud of), and what still needs to be done.
Feedback should be sought on a regular basis. You must look at your actual performance toward the desired outcomes so you can continue to define what “winning” looks like. Seek feedback from others…work colleagues, friends, and clients. Other people’s opinions will give you an insight into your performance. It may be challenging but it’s a big benchmark for your personal journey.
Once you take personal responsibility, you are taking control of your personal success.
