We learn in so many ways…from feedback, from success and of course from setbacks!
Reflection helps identify what worked well, what didn’t, and what lessons can shape future growth, both on a personal and team level!
First of all, look back and reflect on the following!
- What were my biggest accomplishments this year, this may be individually or within the team.
- Which actions, decisions, personal behaviours, or strategies contributed to my success?
- What challenges did I overcome, and how did I do it?
- Who or what was the biggest influence on me?
- What am I most proud of…team and personally?
Then in terms of your team, create a “Success Timeline”, mapping out key milestones and achievements. Write a list for opportunities and lessons learned. Things that you are proud of. Once you have done that create a “Stop, Start, Continue” review:
- Stop: What should I stop doing because it isn’t serving my goals?
- Start: What new habits or approaches should I adopt?
- Continue: What’s working well and should continue?
Once you have reflected, the next step is setting a clear direction forward. You need to consider four key questions.
- What are my top three priorities for the next year/quarter?
- What skills do I want to develop?
- What values will guide my decisions?
What does success look like in the next phase?
All goals created, then need to use the SMART Goals Framework:
Set goals that are:
- Specific – clearly defined
- Measurable – trackable progress
- Achievable – realistic given your resources
- Relevant – aligned with your bigger vision
- Time-bound – with a clear deadline
Finally, you have to stay accountable and motivated…This might include scheduling regular personal reflection check-ins at regular intervals. Perhaps buddy up with someone? Finally…celebrate small wins…success is built on consistent progress. Never stop being your best version of YOU!
